Harp Renewables
How do Harp waterless food waste recyclers work?
Harp waterless food waste recyclers use proprietary biotechnology in the form of thermophilic microbes, mechanical rotation, heat, and airflow to break down food waste and convert it into a valuable soil amendment fertilizer in 24 hours.
Is the end-product of a Harp waterless food waste recycler a compost?
The end product is not compost. It is a nutrient-rich, stable soil amendment that acts like a slow-release biofertilizer.
Does the end-product have an unpleasant odor?
No. Using aerobic microbial processes, Harp machines reduce odors commonly associated with food waste decomposing.
What can be done with the end-product?
The end product produced by the Harp Renewables food waste recyclers can be used for landscaping, given away, or packaged and sold. We recommend blending it with compost or soil at an 8:1 ratio.
Is training available for the Harp Renewables machines?
Yes, Viably will train your team on the usage and maintenance of the Harp food waste recyclers when the machine is installed at your location.
What types of waste can be put in Harp units?
Food waste, including small fish and chicken bones, can be put directly in the Harp Renewables food waste recycler. Large meat bones, shellfish, and compostable food items need to be shredded before being put in. Manure and bedding can also be processed through the Harp units.
Can Harp waterless recyclers be installed inside or outside?
Harp Renewables waterless food waste recyclers can be installed both indoors and outdoors, depending on the available space and requirements.
Do the food waste recyclers need to be covered?
Yes, we recommend covering the Harp Renewables food waste recyclers if located outdoors.
Is water needed for the Harp Renewables food waste recyclers?
No, Harp units do not require any water supply.
Is information available regarding the carbon footprint of Harp recyclers?
Yes, information regarding the carbon footprint of Harp Renewables waterless food waste recyclers can be provided, showing the environmental benefits of each system.
Is financing available?
Yes, Viably’s financing partner, Northland Capital, is a nationwide direct lender to the waste and recycling industry and offers financing and lease options to increase productivity, efficiency, and profitability for your business.
Who uses Harp waterless food waste recyclers?
We work with any business that produces food waste, including corporate campuses, hospitals, restaurants, grocery stores, schools, and others. We also work with waste haulers, composters, and waste processing facilities.
Is the end-product the same every time?
Similar end-product nutrient profiles can be expected for similar input material (e.g., cafeteria food waste vs. manure).
Do Harp waterless recyclers accept compostable packaging?
Yes, Harp waterless food waste recyclers can process compostable packaging materials when put through a built-in shredder, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
What happens when plastic is introduced into the food waste recycler?
Plastic won’t cause any damage to the machine, but it’s preferable that it doesn’t make its way into the waste stream to begin with, as it is a contaminate.
Is any liquid discharged from the Harp unit?
The moisture from the food waste recycling machine is vented as steam vapor. Some condensate, which is just H2O, comes off the vent and can be put down a drain.
What ancillary equipment is available with Harp food waste recyclers?
Viably offers bin lifters, built-in shredders, and automated feed hoppers as optional accessories for the Harp Renewables food waste recyclers. For larger systems, we can string together multiple units with stacking augers.
Will the microbes die if the machine is not fed for day(s)?
No. If the Harp Renewables food waste recycler hasn’t been fed, it will enter a dormant state after 48 hours of non-use. The microbes will also go dormant until fresh food is added – up to 6 months.
What is the capacity?
There is a wide range of machines to suit operations of different sizes. Harp recyclers range from 38 gallons (224 lbs) to 1,887 gallons (5.5 tons) per day. In addition, multiple machines can be connected together to increase overall processing capacity.
How much energy does the Harp Renewables recycler require to run?
Based on the size of the machine, the range of energy consumption is 7.68 kWh/day to 244.13 kWh/day.
Does the current food being processed need to finish before adding more?
No, unlike batch digesters, the Harp Renewables waterless food waste recycler can be continuously fed. We recommend feeding the machine 3-4 times a day.
What is the required daily maintenance?
Daily maintenance is short and easy – we estimate 10 minutes. The air filter needs to be cleaned daily and a visual inspection conducted.
What is the annual maintenance?
Annual maintenance includes replacing the carbon pellets every six months, greasing bearings, and replacing the nylon pads on the auger paddles if they are worn (approximately two years).
How often does the machine need to be cleaned?
Harp recyclers almost never need to be cleaned. If standard operating conditions are met, there is no need to clean the interior of the machine as that would disrupt the biological processes.
Are there reporting capabilities?
Yes. Harp Renewables food waste recycling machines can be connected via an ethernet cable. Temperatures and alerts are monitored. Weights are also tracked on each machine which can be used in sustainability reports.
Where are Harp Renewables food waste recyclers manufactured?
All Harp waterless food waste recyclers are manufactured in Brownstown, Kentstown, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland.
